New Brunswick Awards Huge Gaming Software Grant

A $5 million grant has been given by the province of New Brunswick to create an online gaming software platform. The recipient of the grant is a consortium comprising GTECH Canada, T4G, First Mobile Education and New Brunswick Community College. The grant will be paid over a period of five years.

It has been learnt that this software platform will directly target the mobile gambling sector. In the past most software providers have first stabilised their products for computers before diversifying into cell phones. There is a major advantage in the proposed route. The games based on HTML5 technology can be easily adapted for computers and laptops. It is much more difficult and costly to convert the traditional online casino software to mobile gaming. The software platform will ultimately deliver gaming content for web-based devices and land-based gaming machines as well.

This consortium will build its own software platform from scratch instead of licensing out a product already operating in the remote gambling industry. This approach will result in a higher upfront cost and a longer start up time. But it will lead to substantial savings in licensing fees later on. There are some other advantages as well. The platform will be custom made to specific requirements. It will also lead to local job creation, which is one of the main objectives of the grant. An undertaking of this sort will create a multitude of jobs of various kinds. The project will require programmers, computer engineers, network staff and customer service representatives to name a few. It has been projected that the revenue from the online games will be sufficient to meet this payroll bill on an ongoing basis. In the end the people of New Brunswick will get specialised jobs and a host of exciting casino games on their mobile phones.

The leader of the consortium is GTECH Canada ULC, which is the wholly-owned subsidiary of Italian firm GTECH S.p.A (formerly Lottomatica). GTECH Canada was recently bestowed with the New Brunswick Export Award (Foreign-Owned Exporter Category), for its outstanding contribution to the online gaming industry. GTECH Canada was established in Moncton in 1990 and is engaged in exporting the complete range of gaming products to various gaming sectors that include commercial casinos, interactive gaming facilities, sports betting operators, distributed government-backed markets and Amusement with Prize (AWP) venues. Don Doucet, GTECH’s Vice President of Business Strategy and Development voiced his company’s pride and appreciation for having received the award for the second consecutive occasion.
