Microgaming Showcases Virtual Reality Gaming Technology

Carrying out activities from the comfort of one’s home has been the mantra of the last two decades. Online casinos allow you to wager on games like slot machines, roulette and blackjack without going to land casinos. In order to make the experience more realistic live dealer casinos were introduced, where action from a studio casino was integrated to the online casino system. Now another step forward has been announced using virtual reality. Again the pioneer is Microgaming, the software provider to the best Canadian online casinos.

Microgaming has an in-house outfit called Cryolab, which has been engaged in the development of virtual reality based gambling. At the recently held expo ICE 2016 Cryolab showcased a virtual reality video on the creation of the VR Roulette for use with the Oculus Rift headset. The video highlighted the company's widespread R&D drive for the virtual reality technology use in the remote gambling industry. The new product was made ready exclusively for ICE 2016.

Microgaming has been working on this technology for some time. At ICE 2015 the software developer had demonstrated how wearable technology could impact the online gambling industry. That time the hardware used was Google Glass and Microgaming had named the process "Glass Betting". Oculus Rift seems to be a better option to combine virtual reality with real money gaming. Oculus Rift is a headset that players wear while two displays are streamed to their retinas to create an immersive experience. The first virtual reality game developed by Microgaming is VR Roulette. For Canadian players interested in hardware details, it is specifically used with the Oculus Rift DK 2 headset and Leap Motion 3D Controller. The game evaluates analogue interactions across real and virtual environments, tracking the player's hand movements and then projecting them into the 3D world. Visitors to the Microgaming stall at ICE 2016 were transported in outer space to a roulette table via the headset and 3D controllers. Thus they could personally experience and understand how VR Roulette works.

Following the success of the VR Roulette exhibit at ICE, Microgaming has released a video explaining how their pioneering initiative is the future of online gaming. It is expected that the Oculus Rift headset will be available commercially from March 2016. At ICE 2016, Microgaming also showed how slot machines and live dealer titles had the potential to be developed into real money VR games perfect for the Google Glass or the Oculus Rift.
