The Newly Opened Manitoba Online Casino Is Said To Be Failing Due To Under Performance

The legal situation regarding online gambling in Canada is simple to understand. Online gambling is deemed entirely illegal for local residents of Canada unless they are playing at an online casino site that has been sanctioned by the local provincial government and operated a locally licensed company. Most usually this means the online casino site is operated by the local provincial lottery company.

In Manitoba, it is the Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corporation that is responsible for operating the local legal online casino site. It is charged with providing online gambling in the province. Any revenue earned by the corporation is used to fund local educational and health care related projects.

Manitoba launched its new online gambling offering, an online casino using the PlayNow.com platform just a year ago. However, after a whole twelve months of operation, things are not looking so good, and the Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corporation is now saying that its initial revenue predictions are way out.

Speaking on behalf of the Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corporation, Andrea Kowal, has said that, "It's a very, very competitive market and whether we entered it late or not, the fact is there are choices customers are always going to make in any sort of ecommerce, including e-commerce. There are a lot of other sites out there that Manitobans can play on."

We need to consider though, that the online casino site in question, never offered the same level of gameplay as full blown international online casino sites do. It offers a very limited, cut down online gambling experience, and this is likely the main reason for its lack of success.

Originally it was predicted that the site would generate around $1.5 million in the first year, but this has not been the case. Only around $300,000 in revenue has been earned, and this is well below projected figures.

When we consider the fact that it is predicted that local Manitoba residents are spending around $37 million a year on online gambling, we can see just have badly the local legal online casino site is failing, it is not even managing to snatch 1% of the local market away from the big online casino operators. We believe that the Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corporation needs to go back to the drawing board, and try and come up with an online casino site that offers the same level of gameplay as international sites.
