Amaya Focus On Security And Responsible Gaming

With the increasing competition in the online casino space offering great gaming will be necessary but not sufficient. Players will gravitate to the online casino sites that offer security, integrity and responsible gambling. Keeping this in mind, Amaya Gaming, the leading Canadian online gaming company, has made two senior level appointments.

Amaya Gaming has appointed Chris Lewis, former Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police, as advisor to its board of directors. The focus of Lewis will be to offer advice in order to ensure security and stability to the operations. Lewis has proven experience and knowledge about security processes and also integrity and his expertise will be of immense use for Amaya Gaming. In particular, Lewis will help navigating the company’s expansions in a direction and manner that is within Canadian gambling laws.

David Baazov, Amaya Gaming chairman and chief executive officer, pointed out that the company operates in a heavily regulated industry. He added, “Mr. Lewis’s experience will ensure we continue to lead the way in security processes and procedures as well as integrity, which are of crucial importance to our customer, as well as governments and industry partners.”

Amaya Gaming has also appointed a new vice-president with the objective of broadening its senior management. George Sweny is the new vice-president of strategic venture. One of the reasons of this appointment is that Sweny is also a member of the board of directors of the Responsible Gambling Council of Canada. This additional position will help Amaya Gaming maintain its commitment to encourage responsible gambling practices amongst its online casino players. About this appointment Baazov said “Mr. Sweny has extensive gaming industry experience in both the public and private sector and will ensure we maintain the highest standards in reasonable gaming.”

Amaya Gaming has grown significantly in the last year through a number of heavy acquisitions. The biggest of these was the $4.9 billion dollar deal that made PokerStars a part of the Amaya group. The acquisition reportedly came under scrutiny from the Canadian authorities leading to a fall in stock prizes. But now all appears well.

Amaya Gaming received two 2014 Cantech Letter Awards. The first was the TSX Tech Stock of the Year and the second was the TSX Tech Executive of the Year, which went to Baazov. These two awards secured Amaya's top position among the best performing Canadian stocks in online gambling. In December 2014 PokerStars launched its online casino. In the first quarter of 2015 Amaya will launch PokerStars sports betting.
